Our Mission



Throughout the world, Operation Smile volunteers repair childhood facial deformities while building public and private partnerships that advocate for sustainable healthcare systems for children and families. Together, we create smiles, change lives, heal humanity.

About Us



When the Coen Foundation, located in the city of Chinandega, wanted to help children in the region suffering from cleft lips and cleft palates, it turned to the expertise of Operation Smile Nicaragua medical volunteers to organize the missions. Another not-for-profit group, the Chinandega 2001 Foundation, allowed the use of its hospital for these missions. Operation Smile Nicaragua healthcare professionals travel to the city frequently to evaluate and provide follow-up care for their patients at the Coen Foundation’s existing healthcare centers. The creation of “Guardianas de la Sonrisa,” or “Guardians of the Smile,” a group that fund-raises and volunteers for Operation Smile Nicaragua, allows the Foundation to rely on their support and expertise.
